Red Pine
Pinus resinosa

- Cones egg-shaped, ~2” long
- Needles sharp and long (3”-8”), snap cleanly when bent, usually in clusters of two
- Used for utility poles, cabin logs, railroad ties, construction lumber, furniture, pulpwood
- Named for its reddish-brown bark and pale red heartwood
- Bark historically used for tanning leather
- Sap and needles have medicinal purposes such as treating wounds, liniment, alleviate respiratory illness
- Long-lived
