The Silas Lane Trail forms a 2-mile loop in the west end of Oneonta. It follows the river and wends through fields and past a small wetland.
Access to the Silas Lane Trail: From I-88, take Exit 13. Turn towards the mountains rather than the city, then take a right onto Silas Lane. Access the trail from either the official OSG parking lot (on the right) or the former soccer field parking lot (take a left just before the Oneonta City School District Bus Garage near the end of the road).
Visitors to Silas Lane will notice that much of the field has been brush-hogged. The area had become overgrown with honeysuckle and other invasive plants, to the detriment of wildlife habitat. It is now being managed to provide early successional habitat for grassland wildlife.
The Greenway Trails are a great place to exercise our 4–legged friends. Owners are encouraged to keep dogs on leashes. Please be considerate of other trail users and don’t leave their droppings behind!
The pavilion at the Silas Lane trail was completed in 2006. It provides a resting spot for hikers, a picnic area for trail users, and a location for classroom instruction for the school groups that use the trail. No reservations are necessary.
New informational signs are being planned for the Silas Lane loop.
